ACP — A Crooked Path

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.

John 14:1 — English Standard Version

“But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”

Mark 13:32 — English Standard Version (Jesus Christ the Lord speaking to His disciples)

No One Knows That Day and Hour

“But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left. Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

Matthew 24:36-44 — English Standard Version (Jesus Christ the Lord speaking to His disciples)

If Jesus Christ our Lord does not know the day or the hour how could any mere man on this earth then know? Anyone making such claims is a false teacher. They go against the word of God. They are not genuine disciples of Jesus Christ the Lord. They are those filling itching ears with lies, misinformation and deadly risky speculation. All going against God, Christ and the Holy Scriptures.

Genuine believers know we are living in the last of the last days. Even many who do not believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, or in the One True God our Father, or anything in the Holy Scriptures talk about, think about, write about this age being the last age. The non-believers do so for myriad reasons citing environment crisis such as global warming and over population, depletion of resources, so on.

Genuine believers know within their spirits and thus their hearts and minds these times are the last times.

Sadly though, in error though of being sound disciples of Jesus Christ the Lord far too many in these times indulge in risky speculation regarding signs, wonders, world events, and continue to ask questions about when the world will end, which prophecy id being fulfilled, so on. The worst of these speculators are those false teachers and heretics who declare specific dates and times for the Lord’s return which not even Jesus Christ our Lord knows the exact day and hour — only God our Father knows this.

I have been guilty of being swept up in this vortex of increasing winds swirling about of what does this mean, is this part of this prophecy? Is this the event, thing, person, technological advancement which will lead to the end?

When all that matters, all we should be saying, writing, believing and pursuing is our faith in and our statement that Jesus Christ the Lord is coming back again.

Much of the material here on A Crooked Path deals with end times, Biblical prophecy, current events which fall under the category of being part of the end of the age, or possibly an event, thing, person, technology directly leading to the end of the age and the return of Jesus.

Much of the Holy Scriptures are about prophecy. About 28% of the Bible is about prophecy. Jesus spoke of it. Many in the Bible did.

We are to PREPARE, we are to LOOK HEAVENWARD ON HEAVENLY THINGS, we are to follow, serve and obey Jesus our Lord while being diligent students studying all of God’s word. Preparing. increasing our faith in these times. We are to make ready, always be ready like the ten virgins who kept their lamps filled with oil for the coming of the Bridegroom.

Not in fear.

Not in worry.

Not in what can easily lead to risky speculation.

You Must Be Ready

“Stay dressed for action and keep your lamps burning, and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the wedding feast, so that they may open the door to him at once when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes. Truly, I say to you, he will dress himself for service and have them recline at table, and he will come and serve them. If he comes in the second watch, or in the third, and finds them awake, blessed are those servants! But know this, that if the master of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have left his house to be broken into. You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

Peter said, “Lord, are you telling this parable for us or for all?” And the Lord said, “Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom his master will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions. But if that servant says to himself, ‘My master is delayed in coming,’ and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and get drunk, the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces and put him with the unfaithful. And that servant who knew his master’s will but did not get ready or act according to his will, will receive a severe beating. But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a light beating. Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.”

Luke 12:35-48 — English Standard Version

The Day of the Lord Will Come

knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.” For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God, and that by means of these the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished. But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.

But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.

Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

2 Peter 3:3-13 — English Standard Version

We becoming more obsessed in speculating, wondering, discussing what event means what and does this mean the end is near, so on — rather than putting on the whole armor of God, increasing our spiritual wisdom and discernment, growing in faith, and preparing for the return of our Lord, preparing for eternity.

I permitted myself to get caught in such corners and traps in the past while being the steward of this website. I allowed other people to sway and influence me and lead me down paths all in very sincere innocence about this thing or that which they were certain — or speculating — was something directly tied to the end of the world.

How about we know in our hearts and minds Jesus is coming back and we tell others of this and prepare ourselves to spread the good news of the gospel in the hope some will hear, some will see, some will seek the Lord, some will answer His call and become saved before He does return.

Yes, be aware. Follow the news. I am going to continue to post events, situations, technologies, institutions, individuals which are all possible threads in the fabric of the end — but let us not be consumed. Let us not lose sight. Let us not become distracted.

Let us not ever live in fear.

Or doubt.

Let us not worry.

Let us rest assured in the faith our Lord Jesus Christ is coming back.

No one but God knows.

And we do not need to know.

What we need to do is this hour? Make ourselves more ready for His return. Make ourselves better equipped. Maintaining the full armor of God. Being devoted daily, nightly students of the Holy Word of God. Being closer to God in an increased, not amiss, personal private prayer life. Which brings life. Which brings greater intimacy with God and greater understanding.

The day, which person is going to appear as the Antichrist, where is America in end times prophecy, what role does this have, what role does that have? None of that can save anyone but it can lead to a distraction which weakens, which definitely can lead astray to fall from the faith to follow some cockamamie false doctrine and false teacher.

Let us turn away from risky speculation and deal with the sound doctrine and instructional words, the life giving words of the Holy Scriptures in the knowledge God is in total control. God has a plan. God’s plan is working. All Biblical prophecy is and will be fulfilled.

In due course.

In due time.

In the meantime may each of us become closer to God and Jesus our Lord. Not distracted in heart of mind. Purifying ourselves. Growing stronger and deeper in the faith and knowledge of God and all things holy and spiritual according to God be putting more time in on reading and being a student of the Bible, and putting more time in on private prayer.

Matthew 24 — King James Version

Temple Destruction Foretold

(Mark 13:1-9; Luke 21:5-9)

And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

False Christs

For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.

Witnessing to All Nations

(Mark 13:10-13; Luke 21:10-19)

Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

The Abomination of Desolation

(Mark 13:14-23; Luke 21:20-24)

When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes. And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened. Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before.

The Return of the Son of Man

(Mark 13:24-27; Luke 21:25-28)

Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.

Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

The lesson of the Fig Tree

(Mark 13:28-31; Luke 21:29-33)

Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

Be Ready at Any Hour

(Genesis 6:1-7; Mark 13:32-37; Luke 12:35-48)

But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
