Covering Up Our Culture to ‘Avoid Giving Offense’

The article here following my comments is not posted because I believe the statues of Rome should or should not be covered up or in any defense of secular culture. This article is included for two main reasons.

One, it presents the facts as they are.

Two, it reveals the blatant hypocrisy and double-standard of entire Western governments, institutions, peoples and society at large.

The following excerpt from the article below is what triggered me to copy this article and post it;

Writing in 2008, The Telegraph‘s Tim Walker quoted the famous playwright Simon Gray saying that Nicholas Hytner, director of London’s National Theatre from 2003-2015, “has been happy to offend Christians,” but “is wary of putting on anything which could upset Muslims.” The last people who did so were the journalists of the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. They paid with their lives. By refusing to confront the speech police, or to support freedom of expression for Salman Rushdie, Roger Scruton, Jordan Peterson, Charlie Hebdo and Jyllands-Posten — just the tip of a huge iceberg — we have started down the road of submission to sharia law and to tyranny. We all have been covering up our supposedly “blasphemous” culture with burqas to avoid offending people who do not seem to mind offending us.

Those that have no qualms, no reserve, no problem offending, mocking, ridiculing Christians, those who openly take delight in mocking the One True God, Jesus Christ the Lord, using his name in vain like punctuation, in belittling, oppressing, firing, suing, ostracizing and have no problem or restraint in blatantly offending genuine Christians exercise their massive hypocrisy and double-standard in bowing to Islam.

The real faith of peace, the one that would not harm them, kill them, or lash out at them — the one that would not threaten them, bomb their homes, their workplaces, injure their children, kidnap or rape their wives and daughters, the one that would not behead them? The real faith of peace? They mock, spit on, delight in offending at every possible turn and occasion. Especially those in entertainment, in journalism, in the arts.

And those who with their lips profess to be the people of peace, the belief of peace? They live in shaking, quaking hypocritical double-standard fear of knowing in truth, of all known and professed beliefs, the one claiming to be of peace and non-violence is the one that would kill them and not blink or think twice. Is the one that would bomb their homes, their places of work, the public transportation they might use, the one that would not hesitate to bomb their children’s schools, to kidnap and rape or behead their children and their wives.

Incredible isn’t it? When seriously thought about and the truth is told?

They will bow to Islam and lies and adopt and accept tyranny, repression, a new Ottoman Empire, adjusting everything they think, say or do around Islamists — accepting openly tyranny and Sharia law while having no qualms about spitting on the One True God, spitting on Jesus Christ the Lord, spitting on the Holy Bible, spitting on true Christians.

This is happening everywhere. For everyone to see, hear, smell and know. Everywhere. And corporately accepted, adopted, reinforced with nary a whimper or whisper or grunt.

A radical turn of events that took place in world history in a span of about 20 years.

Incredible.

As this world and its people corrode, erode, decline, more and more are given over to reprobate (unrighteous) and fearful minds living and believing the lies over the truth, and more and more tyranny, oppression, fascism is accepted and adopted and so-called “culture” concerns itself with fear and its own loathing and hypocrisy, it’s own double-standards more concerned with offending the enemy within than standing firmly, boldly in the truth imagine what the next 5 years will be like? The next 10, should the Lord tarry and not yet return? The next 14, 15 years, again, should the Lord tarry and not return?

Imagine, if you will, if you can what lies in store for the people of this sinful world due to the path, the course they have chosen to take almost en masse.

No problem offending, mocking and worse Christians.

But don’t dare speak or write anything that an Islamist might take offense towards — which means utter silence since Islamists take offense at everything that is not Islamic or Sharia.

What irony, what hypocrisy, what double-standards, what revealing of the prophecy and teachings within the inerrant, living whole word of God!

I would never bomb any heathen, any unbeliever, anyone of beliefs which are not mine. I would not kidnap their loved ones, rape their women, desire them to fail, to have harm brought upon them, that they would be removed, defamed, hurt, or otherwise endure hardship, pain, loss — yet they imagine folks like me to be the problem and if only they could rid the earth of people like me, like you dear beloved fellow brother and sister, then all would be well in this world. I’ve read and heard such very words. “If only the Christians would disappear, if only they would all die we could have the world we want!”

The real people of peace they want to kill, remove, or at least have no difficulty in mocking and offending mightily.

While the real people to bomb them, kidnap their loved ones, rape their women, enslave them, their children, their wives, desiring them to fail, wishing harm upon them, praying to their false god to bring harm upon them, to destroy them, praying they be removed, hurt and to otherwise endure great hardship, misery, pain and loss? Those they bow to, submit to, will never speak the truth about and submit to the tyranny and fascism, the violence and fear they have no qualms inflicting.

What irony.

What utter fear and lies live in so many cold, hard hearts and minds of the people of the world refusing the Truth, the Way, the Light and the Life!

Let us all, all of us who can take offense, that would suffer great trials, tests, sufferings, tribulations and whatever the world that hates us might bring our way — let us all who live in truth pray continually, pray daily, pray individually, pray corporately for those walking in darkness. Walking and living in the web of lies, living in fear, refusing the truth. May we pray always for them being the salt of the earth we are instructed to be. Being the light of the world, not boasting of ourselves, no light in us except that of the Father, of Jesus Christ — may we live and possess THAT Light so they can see and thus glorify the Father and the Son, and perhaps allow the power of the Spirit of the Lord to work in them while God Almighty by His will and grace, His mercy and love blesses them with breath, with a beating heart.

May we also pray some of those claiming to be people of peace with their lips? May they truly come to know the only real peace within their hearts. The only true way while they have opportunity and may they repent, come to know the truth and turn from their counterfeit faith. The false god they now worship and come to know and commit their lives to the Lord Jesus Christ, and the One True God, while it remains possible for them to do so.

God is all-knowing, all-powerful, and may none of us diminish, reduce, declare or limit the power of the Spirit of God to work in people. In the mystery we may not understand or see.

Let us not become as the world. Let us not secrete, breath, exhort their fears, their hypocrisies, their double-standards, nor have any acquaintance with the lies they live within and by. Let us study and reside within the word of God to truly be separate and unspotted by this world, an example in how we walk, and may each of us walk in the truth of God’s word and instruction to us all.

Praying always for those living and caught in the darkness. Enslaved and seduced by the Evil One and his ministers and minions, which are legion in this world. Taking whatever offense they may hurl our way demonstrating Christ living within us and we in Him and not demonstrating we will retaliate in violence, in harm, in threats as others might and do.

And we know who those are do we not?

Let us not be counted as one of those. Ever.

Covering Up Our Culture to ‘Avoid Giving Offense’

  • Recently, some major conservative intellectuals have been sacked in the U.K.. One is the peerless philosopher Roger Scruton, who was fired from a governmental committee…
  • Then it was the turn of the great Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson, whose visiting fellowship at Cambridge University was rescinded…
  • By refusing to confront the speech police, or to support freedom of expression for Salman Rushdie, Roger Scruton, Jordan Peterson, Charlie Hebdo, and Jyllands-Posten — just the tip of a huge iceberg — we have started down the road of submission to sharia law and to tyranny. We all have been covering up our supposedly “blasphemous” culture with burqas to avoid offending people who do not seem to mind offending us.
In 1988, The Satanic Verses was published, written by Salman Rushdie (left), a British citizen. Iran’s “Supreme Leader” Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini (right) in 1989 condemned Rushdie to death for writing the book. The Rushdie affair seems to have deeply shaped British society. Three years ago, the Italian government made a shameful decision. It veiled its antique Roman statues to avoid offending Iran’s visiting President Hassan Rouhani. Nude statues were encased in white boxes. A year earlier, in Florence, another statue featuring a naked man in Greco-Roman style had also been covered during the visit of the crown prince of Abu Dhabi. Now, one of the most famous British art galleries has covered two paintings, after Muslim complaints that they were “blasphemous“.

At the Saatchi Gallery in London, two works, again featuring nudes, this time overlaid with Arabic script, prompted complaints from Muslim visitors, who requested that the paintings be removed from the Rainbow Scenes exhibition. In the end, the paintings were covered with sheets. “The Saatchi is behaving like Saudi Arabia, hiding from public view artworks that blaspheme against Islam”, commented Brendan O’Neill on Spiked. One expert described the paintings as “The Satanic Verses all over again“. The reference was to the book by Salman Rushdie, a British citizen, published in 1988. Iran’s “Supreme Leader” Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in 1989 condemned Rushdie to death for writing the book. The bounty on Rushdie’s head was increased to $4 million in 2016 when a group of Iranians added $600,000 to the “reward” — with no protest from Britain.

It was after Rushdie’s The Satanic Verses that many Western publishing houses began bowing to Islamist intimidation. Christian Bourgois, a French publishing house that had bought the rights, refused to publish The Satanic Verses. It was the first time that, in the name of Islam, a writer was condemned to disappear from the face of the earth — to be murdered for a bounty.

Rushdie is still with us, but the murder in 2004 of Theo van Gogh for producing and directing a film, “Submission”, about Islamic violence toward women; the death of so many Arab-Islamic intellectuals guilty of writing freely, the Danish cartoon riots and the many trials (for instance, here and here) and attempted murders (such as here and here), the slaughter at the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, the attacks after Pope’s Benedict speech in Regensburg, the books and scripts cancelled, the depictions of Muhammad closeted in the warehouses of museums, and the increasing threats and punishments, including flogging, to countless journalists and writers such as Saudi Arabia’s Raif Badawi, should alarm us — not bring us to our knees.

As the Saatchi Gallery’s capitulation shows, freedom of speech in Europe is now exhausted and weak. So far, we have caved in to Islamic extremists and Western appeasers. It is the tragic lesson of the Rushdie case 30 years later: no author would dare to write The Satanic Verses today; no large publishing house such as Penguin would print it; media attacks against “Islamophobes” would be even stronger, as would the bottomless betrayal of Western diplomats. Also today, thanks to social media as a weapon of censorship and implicit mass threats, any author would probably be less fortunate than Rushdie was 30 years ago. Since that time, we have made no progress. Instead, we have been seeing the jihad against The Satanic Verses over and over again.

“Nobody would have the balls today to write ‘The Satanic Verses’, let alone publish it,” said the writer Hanif Kureishi. “Writing is now timid because writers are now terrified”.

According to the author Kenan Malik, writing in 2008:

“What we are talking about here is not a system of formal censorship, under which the state bans works deemed offensive. Rather, what has developed is a culture of self-censorship in which the giving of offence has come to be seen as morally unacceptable. In the 20 years since the publication of The Satanic Verses the fatwa has effectively become internalised”.

The Rushdie affair also seems to have deeply shaped British society. The Saatchi Gallery’s surrender in London is not unique. The Tate Britain gallery shelved a sculpture, “God is Great”, by John Latham, of the Koran, Bible and Talmud embedded in glass. Christopher Marlowe’s “Tamburlaine the Great” was censored at the Barbican Centre. The play included a reference to the Prophet of Islam being “not worthy to be worshipped” as well as a scene in which the Koran is burned. The Whitechapel Art Gallery in London purged an exhibit containing nude dolls which could possibly have upset the Muslim population. At the Mall Galleries in London, a painting, “ISIS Threaten Sylvania”, by the artist Mimsy, was censored for showing toy stuffed-animal terrorists about to massacre toy stuffed-animals having a picnic.

At the Royal Court Theatre in London, Richard Bean was forced to censor himself for an adaptation of “Lysistrata”, the Greek comedy in which the women go on a sex strike to stop the men who wanted to go to war. In Bean’s version, Islamic virgins go on strike to stop terrorist suicide bombers.

Unfortunately, in the name of fighting “Islamophobia”, the British establishment now appears to be submitting to creeping sharia: and purging and censoring speech on its own.

Recently, some major conservative intellectuals have been sacked in the UK. One is the peerless philosopher Roger Scruton, who was fired from a governmental committee for saying that the word “Islamophobia” has been invented by the Muslim Brotherhood “to stop discussion of a major issue“.

Then it was the turn of the great Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson, whose visiting fellowship at Cambridge University was rescinded for posing with a man wearing an “I’m a proud Islamophobe” T-shirt. Professor Peterson later said that the word “Islamophobia” has been “partly constructed by people engaging in Islamic extremism, to ensure that Islam isn’t criticised as a structure”.

The instances of Scruton and Peterson only confirm the real meaning of “Islamophobia”, a word invented to silence any criticism of Islam by anyone, or as Salman Rushdie commented, a word “created to help the blind remain blind”. Where is the long-overdue push-back?

Writing in 2008, The Telegraph‘s Tim Walker quoted the famous playwright Simon Gray saying that Nicholas Hytner, director of London’s National Theatre from 2003-2015, “has been happy to offend Christians,” but “is wary of putting on anything which could upset Muslims.” The last people who did so were the journalists of the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.
